My primary interest as a painter is space as a painterly and theoretical construction. In my work conflicting and alternate spatial arrangements reflect a kind of danger and uncertainty. Coherence is undermined as unity is cast into doubt.
In my paintings each passage suggests a tentative relationship with the whole painting. There is a sense of doom and optimism as foreboding forms fracture and bright colors attempt to gain dominance over dark structures.
Art history plays a role in the work as the tenuous spatial nature in the paintings counters the certainty of Modernist devices (attention to the edge of the stretcher, flat colors, geometric shapes, and outlines). The works attempt to become both objects and environments.
